Step by Step Painting

Its always interesting to look at different stages of a painting. Of course, each painter will have their own process, but this is fairly typical of mine. I always try to take photographs of the different steps, but sometimes I get sucked into the painting and forget.

The first photograph has only fairly thin acrylic, it is my rough "drawing" stage. Then from the second photograph onwards I am in oils.

Snow and Sunset on the street

On our way home the other day after a movie I snapped a pic of this and painted it this past week in my studio. I declared it finished early - I have a problem with overworking paintings (and I know I'm not alone in this ;-)

I'm in the last stages of this painting, probably one more session to define and anchor the figure at bottom right, it is actually a woman carrying a baby going towards the fountain.

The view is from above looking down into a little park from a window in the gallery where I had my exhibition in June.

The photograph is not the best, the glare makes the painting look more out of focus than it is.

Sunset out my back window

I am more or less satisfied with this one now, but it was resisting. I enjoyed doing it. I love these post sunset scenes with a little artificial light thrown in.

Rooftop window - Carouge

I just photographed this painting of a rooftop window typical of the houses around here. It was painted a while ago at the end of summer.
