Thee men at the market - finishing up
I have the bad habit of doing my paintings up to about 90% of what they need and putting them aside for the exitement of a new subject.
The consequence is that inevitably, I accumulate paintings needing to be finished.
I finally pulled this one out with the firm intention of finishing it.
So far so good. May be one more session... I have to get those fruits shining!
It is oil on canvas 80 x 60 cm (31.5 x 23.5 inches)

Bringing a street to life - tentative finish

Bringing a street to life - 3
Getting a bit more into the details, now, though I don't want to become too precise. Smaller brushes and strokes - building up the volume of the greenery, tinting the sky a bit closer to violet, accentuating highlights and shadows.

The shapes are coming out more clearly now. It's really beginning to glow.

Bringing a street to life
While still working on my "Shout!" painting (see previous posts), I had a yen for some colors from Provence. I therefore started a new painting.
Here are two first sessions. I started by painting the whole canvas a strong red on impulse, maybe influenced by the feeling of summer heat evoked by Provence. The red was in acrylic, and so I was able to start fairly soon after the red coat was on.
The strong red pushed me towards high contrast & saturated colors. Paintings can have more to say to the painter than you might think. That's where the magic comes in. So I built up the forms fairly free & instinctive. Connaisseurs may recognize the silhouette of a 2 Chevaux, known affectionately as a "une deuch' " , 2nd car down on the right.

Shout - session 6
I'm considering using this painting to illustrate what an oil spill can do. Saw a few photographs of the most recent one that impressed me.

Scaling up a shout - Sessions 2 & 3
Here is the progress on the painting; getting some character in the shout, letting the colors come fairly instictively or by impulse.
